Nelson, Neild Named NEAC Basketball Student-Athletes of the Week

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. - The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced its Student-Athlete of the Week selections in men’s and women’s basketball for the week ending Dec. 9. This week’s selections include student-athletes from SUNY Cobleskill and Gallaudet University.

Dashown Nelson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) from SUNY Cobleskill has been named NEAC Men’s Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week after averaging 19.3 points and 8.7 rebounds per game in a 2-1 week for the Fighting Tigers. The senior guard began the week with 16 points and 10 rebounds in a 67-63 win over SUNY Poly in league play. Nelson picked up his second double-double of the week with 32 points and 12 rebounds in a non-conference victory against Green Mountain College on before closing out the week with 10 points against R.P.I. Nelson shot 44.7 percentage from the field and 33.3 percent from three-point range while totaling 58 points, 26 rebounds, two assists, six steals and two blocks on the week.

Hannah Neild (Litchfield, N.H.) from Gallaudet University has been selected as the NEAC Women’s Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week for the second time this season with 87 points and 28 rebounds in three games last week. The Bison’s senior guard averaged 29 points per game in a week that included 27 points in a conference win at Lancaster Bible and a season-high 35 points in a loss at St. Mary’s College. During Gallaudet’s 2-1 week, Neild notched two double-doubles, averaged 9.3 rebounds per game, recorded a 58.5 field-goal percentage, shot 56.3 percent from beyond the arc and went 16-for-17 from the free throw line. She also added 12 assists, 14 steals and four blocks to round out the week.


The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has 12 NCAA Division III member institutions which include: Cazenovia College, College of Saint Elizabeth, Gallaudet University, Keuka College, Lancaster Bible College, Pennsylvania College of Technology, Pennsylvania State University – Abington, Pennsylvania State University – Berks, SUNY Cobleskill, Morrisville State, SUNY Polytechnic Institute, and Wells College.
