Gallaudet Wins Third Straight NEAC Women’s Volleyball Championship

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The Gallaudet University Bison won their third straight North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Women's Volleyball Championship, as they defeated the Keuka College Storm 3-0 (25-19, 25-8, 25-13) and concluded their season undefeated against NEAC competition while not dropping a set in any conference matches.

The Bison (31-6), who earned the top seed and the right to host the NEAC Tournament after a perfect 11-0 conference record in the regular season, will now gain an automatic berth into the 2012 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.  It marks the ninth time in program history that Gallaudet has advanced this far.

Junior Lane Peters (Phoenix, Ariz.) registered nine kills and six blocks (two solo) in the title match and took home Tournament MVP honors after finishing the tournament with 14 kills, 42 total attacks, four digs and seven total blocks (one solo, six assisted) through two matches, which also included a 3-0 (25-11, 25-19, 25-9) victory over Lancaster Bible College earlier in the day. 

Sophomore Kali Frowick (Norfolk, Neb.), last year's Tournament MVP, also had nine kills while adding a match-high 14 digs, while senior and NEAC Defensive Player of the Year Jessica Israel (Frederick, Md.) had seven kills and assisted on four blocks .  Senior Ann Whited (Fishers, Ind.) posted seven kills, eight digs and a match-high five serve aces, while sophomore setter Sarah Tubert (Burbank, Calif.) tallied 34 assists, nine digs and two serve aces.

Sophomore Devan Curtis (San Clemente, Calif.) and freshman Morgan Eberly (Utica, N.Y.) each had six kills for Keuka, while junior Paige Golden (Kent, N.Y.) had 11 digs.

Gallaudet will now head to the NCAA Tournament, where they hold a 3-8 overall record.  The Bison will learn their opponent and matchup location at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 5, by the NCAA's online selection show that can be viewed at www.ncaa.com.
