ABINGTON, Pa. - The Penn State Abington men’s and women’s basketball teams have joined the “Pink Zone” team in partnership with the Penn State University Lady Lions and the Barnes & Noble Bookstore throughout the Penn State campus system in a combined effort to raise breast cancer awareness and funds in support of cancer research.
The 2012 Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Pink Zone at Penn State Abington will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 14, as the Nittany Lions take on the Lancaster Bible College Chargers in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action at the Lion’s Den Gymnasium. The men’s contest will begin at 6 p.m. while the women are scheduled to take the court at 8 p.m.
Admission is free and open to the public. Abington encourages those to wear pink at the game. T-shirts will be sold during the game, with $5 of every adult (or $2 of every youth) shirt sold will be donated to the Pink Zone fundraising efforts.
Last year, through a coalition of Penn State campuses, the Lady Lions donated nearly $200,00 for breast cancer causes. This year's fundraising efforts will benefit the Mount Nittany Medical Center, Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute, Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition, the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital and Lewistown Hospital.
