Keuka College to Hold Annual Storm Madness Pep Rally November 3
KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – Members of Keuka College and the surrounding community will get a chance to meet the members of the men’s and women’s basketball teams during the eighth annual Storm Madness, the preseason pep rally that is scheduled for an 8 p.m. start on Thursday, Nov. 3, inside the Weed Physical Arts Center.
Both the men’s and women’s basketball team and the coaching staffs will be on hand for the pep rally, which will feature basketball skills competitions, prize giveaways and performances from Keuka’s step team, dance team and cheer team.
There will also be a chicken wing and a pizza eating contest, a paper airplane toss and other spirit-raising competitions. The event is exclusively planned out, coordinated and executed by members of Jeff Bray’s SPS 401 Sports Management class as part of their senior class projects. Bray serves as Keuka’s head athletic trainer and also as assistant director of athletics.
“The overall purpose of Storm Madness is to increase the morale on campus and get our student-athletes excited for the start of the winter sports season,” Bray said. “It’s important for the freshmen and the students new to campus to feel the excitement that we can drum up in athletics. This is one of the largest participation events for our students on campus and we’re strongly suggesting our faculty and staff turn out for this as well.”
Admittance to the pep rally costs either a $1 donation or a donation of non-perishable food items.
Besides giving out assorted prizes to fans that flock to the Weed to support the basketball teams, during the second annual Car Smash, fans can purchase tickets to swing a sledgehammer at a car donated by Red’s Auto Works in Penn Yan. For $1, fans receive three swings at the car, and proceeds go to benefit Milly’s Pantry in Penn Yan and the Keuka Comfort Care Home, a Hospice House located in Penn Yan.
Keuka’s fall sports teams will also be introduced during Storm Madness, which saw more than 100 attendees last year.
