Wells SAAC Team Earns Leadership Award From NCAA
Aurora, NY - The Wells College Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) was recently awarded honorable mention by the NCAA Division III Student-Athlete Leadership Conference Recognition Award Program for their plan titled, Athletics and Outside Community a Better Relationship, presented at the 2009 Division III Student-Athlete Leadership Conference in Chicago earlier this year.
The plan, developed by SAAC representative Blasdimil Gomez and Jaime-Leigh Csizmar at the 2008 Leadership Conference, looked at implementing action steps that would improve faculty and staff relationships within athletics. Most notably SAAC developed the "Faculty, Staff and Student Volleyball Game" which featured participation by five faculty members, eight staff members and ten students. SAAC has also developed the thank you note program in which SAAC members send out thank you notes to all faculty and staff for their continued support. Wells received the honorable mention award and a $100 cash prize for the successful implementation of the program on campus.
The Wells College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is an active group of student-athletes who work as liaisons between fellow students and the athletic department. All members work together to foster and develop a strong sense of personal responsibility and involvement among the students, administration and the community.
