Gregory, Rodriguez Earn NEAC Basketball Weekly Honors

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. - The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced its Student-Athlete of the Week selections in men’s and women’s basketball for the week ending Feb. 3. This week’s honorees include student-athletes from SUNY Poly and Penn State Abington.                                                                  

Josh Gregory (Whitesboro, N.Y.) from SUNY Poly has been named NEAC Men’s Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week after leading the Wildcats with 52 points in 2-0 week of conference play. In a 75-68 win over Keuka College, the sophomore forward scored 33 points and 11 rebounds for his 10th double-double of the season. Gregory added 19 points and four rebounds over the weekend to help SUNY Poly defeat Penn State Berks. He averaged 26.0 points per game and shot 64.3 percent from the field while finishing the week with 15 rebounds, four assists, three steals and three blocks. 

Shayna Rodriguez (Philadelphia, Pa.) from Penn State Abington has been selected as the NEAC Women’s Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week for the second time in three weeks after averaging 31.5 points per game in her team’s 1-1 week. The Nittany Lions’ senior guard began the week with 23 points and five rebounds in an 83-76 win at Penn State Berks. On Feb. 2 against Keuka College, Rodriguez tied Abington’s single-game record with 40 points while pulling down 11 rebounds. In two games, Rodriguez totaled 63 points, 16 rebounds, five assists, nine steals and one block with a 50.0 field-goal percentage.
