North Eastern Athletic Conference Student-Athlete of the Week Selections for 11-05-12

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced its Student-Athlete of the Week selections in the sports of men’s and women’s swimming & diving for the period ending Nov. 4, 2012.


M. Sawyer Ballance (Spartanburg, S.C.) has been selected as the NEAC Men’s Swimming & Diving Student-Athlete of the Week after a tremendous performance for the Cazenovia College Wildcats.  The senior swimmer recorded two first-place finishes for the Wildcats in their dual meet against nonconference foe Utica College Saturday, as he won both the 50-yard freestyle (0:23.64) and the 100-yard freestyle (0:51.94).  Ballance also recorded the fastest individual time (0:23.83) during the 200-yard medley relay event, where Cazenovia finished with a time of 1:51.32 as a team and placed second by just three seconds.

 

 

Alexandra Polivanchuk (Orebro, Sweden) has been chosen as the NEAC Women’s Swimming & Diving Student-Athlete of the Week after her sensational performance for the Gallaudet University Bison.  The sophomore helped the Bison to a 92-90 victory over Ferrum last Saturday by winning three of the meet’s 12 events.  Polivanchuk won the 200-yard individual medley, finishing over nine seconds ahead of the next competitor with a time of 2:25.18, while also taking the top spot in the 100-yard butterfly (1:04.66) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:18.44). 


 

The Rest of the Week’s Highlights: SUNY Cobleskill freshman James Bercier (North Babylon, N.Y.) won both the 50-yard freestyle (0:23.91) and 100-yard freestyle (0: 55.29) events in the Fighting Tigers’ dual meet against Bard College of Simon's Rock Sunday  … Wells College junior Matthew Sleezer (Gloversville, N.Y. ) placed first overall in the Men’s 50-yard freestyle (0:22.48) and second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.26) in the Express’ dual meet with The College at Brockport Saturday …  SUNY Cobleskill junior Sarah Duger (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) helped lead the Fighting Tigers to a dual meet victory over Bard College of Simon's Rock Saturday with a pair of individual victories in the 50-yard breaststroke (0:38.51) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:23.15), while also being a part of the day’s winning 200-yard medley relay team with a time of 2:15.97 … Wells College freshman Meghan Terry (Delmar, N.Y.) placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:22.25 during the Express’ dual meet with The College at Brockport Saturday … Cazenovia College freshman Mackenzy Nutter (Cicero, N.Y.) recorded personal-best times during her two second-place finishes in both the 500- (5:58.38) and 1000-yard freestyle (12:19.70) events to help lead the Wildcats to their first-ever victory over nonconference rival Utica College Saturday, and was within seconds of setting new school records in each event.
