North Eastern Athletic Conference Student-Athlete of the Week Selections for 12-19-11
GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced its Student-Athlete of the Week selections in the sports of men’s and women’s basketball for the period ending December 18, 2011.
Brandon Hanks (Syracuse, N.Y.) has been
selected as the NEAC Men’s Basketball Student-Athlete of the
Week for his strong play for the Morrisville State
Mustangs. The sophomore guard earned All-Tournament
Team honors at the Buffalo State College Cole Tournament this past
weekend, guiding the Mustangs to a 1-1 record and a third place
finish after averaging 14.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and
2.5 steals per game while going a perfect 7-for-7 from the free
throw line. Hanks opened the tournament with 18 points, four
rebounds, three assists and four steals in a 77-70 loss to Capital
University on Friday, and then went on to post 11 points, seven
rebounds and six assists in a 77-49 victory over fellow conference
member Keuka College on Saturday. Hanks currently leads the
team in assists per game (3.8) while being second in points
(12.4).
Nijah Townsend (Bronx,
N.Y.) has been named the NEAC Women’s Basketball
Student-Athlete of the Week for her solid play for the
Morrisville State Mustangs. In the
team’s lone contest this week, the sophomore forward netted a
collegiate-best 26 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the
Mustangs’ 73-63 loss to Brockport State in non-conference
action on Friday. She shot 50 percent from the field (11-for-22)
and also went 4-for-6 from the free throw line while playing in all
40 minutes of the contest. Townsend currently leads the
Mustangs in both points (13.4) and rebounds (9.2) per game.
The Rest of the Week’s Highlights: SUNY Institute of Technology junior forward Derek Rowe (Mexico, N.Y.) posted a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds during the Wildcats’ 93-63 setback to Cortland State in non-conference action on Friday … Gallaudet University senior forward Layton Seeber (Champaign, Ill.) hit five 3-pointers and scored a game-high 22 points in the Bison’s 80-65 loss to undefeated Catholic University in non-league action on Saturday … Junior forward Megan McDermott (Greene, N.Y.) netted a game-high 21 points for the Cazenovia College Wildcats in the team’s 87-50 setback to Oswego State in non-conference action this past Friday.
