North Eastern Athletic Conference Student-Athlete of the Week Selections for 12-12-11
GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced its Student-Athlete of the Week selections in the sports of men’s and women’s basketball and men’s and women’s swimming for the period ending December 11, 2011.
Mickey Davis (Jamesville, N.Y.) has been
named the NEAC Men’s Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week
for his strong overall performance for the Morrisville
State Mustangs. The sophomore forward led the
Mustangs to a 1-1 week, including a 66-55 win over NEAC rival Keuka
College last Wednesday in which he hit four 3-pointers and posted a
team-high 18 points to go along with six boards, three assists and
three steals. Davis then went on to score a career-high 35
points on 52 percent shooting (13-for-25) from the floor while also
grabbing a team-high nine rebounds in a hard-fought 79-77 loss to
Clarkson on Friday. He finished the week with two-game
averages of 26.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals per
contest while hitting eight 3-pointers and shooting 49 percent from
the field (20-for-41) in 75 out of a possible 80 minutes of action.
Davis currently leads the NEAC in scoring at 19.8 points per
game.
Sabrina Jarmolinski (Lakewood, N.J.) has
been selected as the NEAC Women’s Basketball Student-Athlete
of the Week for her tremendous all-around performance for the
College of Saint Elizabeth Screaming Eagles.
The senior forward finished the week with two-game averages of 24.5
points, 10.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 2 steals and 1 block per
contest while shooting 46 percent from the field (19-for-41), 90
percent from the free throw line (9-for-10) and committing just
four turnovers in 63 minutes of action. Jarmolinski posted
game highs of 32 points and 14 boards to record her third
double-double of the season in a 88-68 setback to Penn State
Harrisburg Tuesday and followed that up with 17 points, seven
rebounds, six assists and four steals in just 26 minutes on the
floor during a 72-56 victory over conference foe Wilson College
Saturday.
Steven Blundell (Massapequa, N.Y.) has
been named the NEAC Men’s Swimming and Diving Student-Athlete
of the Week for his performance for the SUNY Cobleskill
Fighting Tigers. The freshman swimmer led Cobleskill
to a 385-337 victory over NEAC rival Cazenovia College on Saturday,
winning the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:29.18 and
being a part of the four-man team that won the 200-yard medley
relay with a time of 1:59.78. Blundell also took second place
in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:10.78.
Erin Rynn (Washingtonville, N.Y.) has
been selected as the NEAC Women’s Swimming and Diving
Student-Athlete of the Week for her top-notch performance for the
SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers. Rynn, a
sophomore, won three individual events to guide the Tigers to a
454-407 victory over NEAC rival Cazenovia College on
Saturday. Rynn won the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of
12:35.74, the 500-yard freestyle in 6:03.78 and the 100-yard
butterfly in 1:10.94 on the afternoon.
The Rest of the Week’s Highlights: SUNY Institute of Technology junior guard Sejad Gromilic (Bosnia) led the Wildcats to a 102-98 victory over Utica College with a game-high 31 points while filling in for the Wildcats’ injured starting point guard this past Tuesday … Penn State Harrisburg sophomore guard William Doyle (Franklin, Va.) led the Lions to a 2-1 week and was named to the PNC Bank/Monarch Classic All-Tournament Team after averaging 15 points and 4.6 assists per game and nailing 11 3-pointers, which places him first in the conference in 3-point percentage at 60 percent … SUNY Institute of Technology junior guard Lyndsey Brognano (Rome, N.Y.) led the Wildcats to a 77-70 overtime victory over Old Westbury yesterday after scoring 23 of her 27 points in the second half and the extra session. She currently leads the conference in scoring at 22.6 PPG … Wilson College sophomore forward Vanessa Whitfield (Chambersburg, Pa.) scored 33 points and grabbed 17 rebounds to notch her fourth double-double of the season and guide the Phoenix to a 72-59 conference victory over Penn State Abington yesterday … Junior guard Monet Cunningham (Highspire, Pa.) led the Penn State Harrisburg Nittany Lions to a 3-0 record on the week and earned a spot on the R1 Sports Blue Jay Classic All-Tournament Team with averages of 16 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 3.3 steals per game … Keuka College sophomore guard Jessica Bandrowski (Center Moriches, N.Y.) led the Storm to two conference victories with a total of 33 points on the week.
