North Eastern Athletic Conference Student-Athlete of the Week Selections for 11-21-11
GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has announced its Student-Athlete of the Week selections in the sports of men’s and women’s basketball and men’s and women’s swimming for the period ending November 20, 2011.
Amani Glenn (Harrisburg, Pa.) has been selected as the
NEAC Men’s Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week for his
tremendous overall performance for the Penn State
Harrisburg Nittany Lions. The freshman guard began
his career with a bang, registering team highs of 22 points and
nine rebounds to guide the Lions to the program’s first-ever
victory over Elizabethtown College with the 76-63 win last Tuesday.
He then went on to earn a spot on the Dickinson College Tournament
All-Tournament Team this past weekend after two-game totals of 46
points, 11 rebounds, four steals and three assists, which included
a game-high 30 points during a 79-68 setback to Wilkes. For
the week, Glenn averaged 22.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2 steals and
1.3 assists per game while shooting 53 percent from the field
(28-for-53) and 83 percent from the free throw line
(10-for-12).
Jessica Bandrowski (Center
Moriches, N.Y.)has been named the NEAC Women’s
Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week after leading the
Keuka College Storm to a 1-1 week. The
sophomore guard scored a career-high 23 points to go along with
five assists and five steals in the Storm's 79-39 season-opening
win over SUNY Canton this past Tuesday, and then added 20 points,
six steals and five assists in the Storm's 99-78 loss at William
Smith Saturday night. Bandrowski finished the week with
two-game averages of 21.5 points, 5.5 steals, 5 assists and 2.5
rebounds per game while shooting 59 percent from the field
(17-for-29), 42 percent from the 3-point line (5-for-12) and 67
percent from the free throw line (4-for-6).
Brian Bennett (Colorado Springs, Colo.)
has been selected as the NEAC Men’s Swimming and Diving
Student-Athlete of the Week after his record-breaking performance
for the Gallaudet University Bison. The
senior set three Gallaudet University men's swimming records last
Saturday at the Goucher College double-dual meet, while also
winning two individual events. Bennett won the 200-yard
freestyle in 1:48.43 and the 500-yard freestyle in 4:55.34, which
were both school records, while also swimming the opening 100 yards
of the 400-yard freestyle relay and finishing with a school-record
time of 0:50.46 seconds that gave the Bison the lead. Gallaudet
finished third as a team in the relay but went on to finish in a
tie with Aracdia 47-47 before falling to Goucher 68-27.
Erin Rynn (Washingtonville, N.Y.) has
been named the NEAC Women’s Swimming and Diving
Student-Athlete of the Week for her outstanding performance for the
SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers. Rynn, a
sophomore, was a three-time individual winner during
Cobleskill’s triangular meet this past Thursday, taking first
place in the 1000-yard freestyle (12:38.22), the 500-yard freestyle
(6:09.82) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:12.71). The Fighting
Tigers swept the meet, defeating SUNY Delhi 122-35 and NEAC rival
Wells College 116-68.
The Rest of the Week’s Highlights: Gallaudet University junior forward Danny Kelly (Strongsville, Ohio) came off the bench to score 24 points and grab a career-high 18 rebounds in a 80-69 win over Maryland Bible last Tuesday … SUNY Institute of Technology junior Derek Rowe (Mexico, N.Y.) posted two-game averages of 17.5 points and 11 rebounds per contest en route to being named to the Hamilton Invitational All-Tournament Team … Wilson College junior Tara Fields (Berryville, Va.) was named to the Vassar College Tournament All Tip-Off Team after registering two-game averages of 19 points, 6.5 rebounds, 6.5 steals and 3.5 assists for the Phoenix … SUNY Cobleskill senior Chelcy Moore (Albany, N.Y.) opened the season with back-to-back double-doubles and finished with averages of 12.3 points and 10 rebounds per game to guide the Tigers to a 1-1 week…College of Saint Elizabeth junior Kelly O'Dell (Stewartsville, N.J.) grabbed a career-high 26 rebounds to go along with 12 points in a 69-66 loss to Briarcliffe College Saturday … Wells College Express sophomore Matt Sleezer (Gloversville, N.Y.) broke his own school-record time in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 0:23.11 during the Express’ sweep over SUNY Cobleskill and SUNY Delhi in the Cobleskill tri-meet last Thursday … SUNY Cobleskill freshman Conor Worden (New Bedford, Mass.) won the 1000-yard freestyle (11:52.66) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:48.25) during that same tri-meet … College of Saint Elizabeth freshman Maria Corall (Newton, N.J.) took first place in both the 100-yard Fly (1:05.86) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:17.26) during the Screaming Eagles’ dual meet against William Patterson last Wednesday.
