North Eastern Athletic Conference Student-Athlete of the Week Selections
GANSEVOORT, NY - The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announces student-athlete of the week selections ending Sunday, September 27th, 2009 in the sports of men's cross country, men's golf, men's and women's soccer, women's tennis, and women's volleyball.
Greg Pivarunas (Elma, NY) was selected as the
NEAC Men's Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Week for his 9th
place finish in the Texas DIII State Meet in Seguin, TX.
Pivarunas, a sophomore, finished the 8K race in 27:57 (5:37 mile
pace) to lead his
Universityof Dallas
Crusaders to a 5th place finish.
Brian Herman (Cherry Hill, NJ) was selected as
the NEAC Golf Student-Athlete of the Week for the second
consecutive time for his performance in the Susquehanna Fall
Invitational. Herman shot a 3-over par 73, just one stroke behind
the leader, to finish 3rd individually while his team finished in
4th place amid the strong field. Herman is a senior for the
Rutgers University-Camden Raptors where
his average score this season is a 71.5.
Aaron Gallusser (Oneonta, NY) was selected as the
NEAC Men's Soccer Student-Athlete of the Week for his dominating
performance against conference rival, Penn-State
University-Berks. The sophomore midfielder scored a pair of
goals, including the game winner, on nine shots in the
SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers 4-1
victory over the Nittany Lions.
Traci Bickelhaupt (Hammond, NY) was selected as
the NEAC Women's Soccer Student-Athlete of the Week for her
offensive proficiency, which turned into four goals on seven shots
throughout the week. Bickelhaupt increased the
SUNY Institute of Technology Wildcats
school record as she recorded her 4th career hat-trick in a
lopsided win against conference opponent SUNY Morrisville on
Thursday. The senior forward also scored a lone goal in a
tightly contested match against SUNY-ESF in which the Wildcats fell
3-2. Bickelhaupt leads her team with 10 goals and 21 points
on the season.
Lisa Giambrone (Glen Ridge, NJ) was selected as
the NEAC Women's Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week for her
undefeated 3-0 week for the
Collegeof Saint Elizabeth
Eagles. Giambrone won
both her singles and doubles matches against John Jay College as
well as winning her singles match (6-2, 4-6, 6-4) in the number
four spot against Rutgers University- Newark. The junior made
a heroic comeback against Rutgers-Newark from a 3-0 deficit in the
final set before reeling off six straight games to claim the
victory.
Amanda Wade (Mechanicsburg, PA) was selected as
the NEAC Women's Volleyball Student-Athlete of the week for her
tremendous week for the Penn-State
University-Harrisburg Nittany Lions. Wade, a
senior setter, finished the week playing 16 games with 98 assists
(6.12/game), 9 kills (.56/game) on 36 attempts, 62 digs
(3.88/game), 10 aces, and 1.18 points per game. Wade's
leadership and strong setting play led her Nittany Lions to a 2-2
week.
