North Eastern Athletic Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for 2/8/10
The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announces student-athlete of the week selections for the week ending Sunday, February 7, 2010 in the sports of men’s and women’s basketball.
STEVE JONES (Harrisburg, PA) was selected as the
NEAC Men’s Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week. Jones, a
6’0” freshman guard for the Penn State
University – Harrisburg Nittany Lions, led his
team to a 1-0 week. In their only contest, a 92-78 win over
Lancaster Bible College, Jones tallied 27 points, 10 steals, 6
rebounds, 3 assists, 3-for-3 from the foul line, and a .545
shooting percentage. Jones recorded a double-double this week while
setting a school record 10 steals which also would be the most by
any player this season in NCAA DIII play. Jones receives this award
for the second time this season.
TARA FIELDS (Berryville, VA) was selected as the
NEAC Women’s Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week. In the
only game of the week, Fields, a freshman forward for the
Wilson College Phoenix, finished with 32
points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 1-for-1 from 3-point range,
11-for-12 from the charity stripe (.917 percentage from the free
throw line), and a .625 shooting percentage. Despites the
team’s 54-85 loss, Fields had a huge percentage of the total
points with her strong performance while continuing to lead her
team in scoring, averaging 17.4 points per game.
