NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week Selection for 01/25/10
The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announces student-athlete of the week selections for the week ending Sunday, January 24, 2010 in the sports of men’s and women’s basketball and men's and women's swimming and diving.
KENTON ALSTON (Steelton, PA) was selected as the
NEAC Men’s Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week. Alston, a
sophomore forward for the Penn State University -
Harrisburg Nittany Lions, led his team to a 3-0 week.
He finished the week with 60 points (20/game), 32 rebounds
(10.7/game), 8 assists, 8 steals, 8 blocks, 1-for-3 from beyond the
arc (.500 percentage from 3-point range), 9-for-11 from the charity
stripe (.818 percentage from the free throw line), and .490
shooting percentage. Against NEAC opponent SUNY Morrisville State,
Alston collected 28 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, and 3
blocks while in the Cazenovia game, he 20 points, a season high 17
rebounds, 2 blocks, and 2 steals.
COLEEN CLARKE (Johnson City, NY) was selected as
the NEAC Women’s Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week.
Clarke, a senior guard for the Cazenovia College
Wildcats, led her team to a 2-1 week against NEAC
opponents. She finished the week with 73 points (24.3/game), 22
rebounds (7.3/game), 19 steals, 7 assists, 8-for-19 from beyond the
arc (.421 percentage from 3-point range), 9-for-13 from the charity
stripe (.692 percentage from the free throw line), and .491
shooting percentage. She had a tremendous week exploding with 41
points, 10 rebounds, and 8 steals in win over PS Harrisburg. She
continued in impressive fashion with 23 points (6-for-10 from
3-point range), 6 steals and 5 rebounds in win Wilson. In a loss
against Keuka, Clarke had an additional 9 points, 7 rebounds, 5
steals, and 4 assists. Clarke receives this award for the third
time this season.
ANTHONY MAGGIO (Holland Patent, NY) was selected
as the NEAC Men’s Swimming & Diving Student-Athlete of
the Week. Maggio, a freshman, led the SUNY Institute of
Technology Wildcats with three first place finishes.
In the dual meet with Cazenovia, Maggio finished first in both the
individual 400 yard IM with a time of 4:54.20 and the 500 yard
Freestyle with a time of 5:32.25. He also led the 200 yard Medley
relay team to a first place finish with a time of 4:15.97. Maggio
helped his team defeat Cazenovia College in their dual meet with a
score of 108-63.
EMILY THOMAS (Plymouth Meeting, PA) was selected
as the NEAC Women’s Swimming & Diving Student-Athlete of
the Week. Thomas, a freshman, led the Cazenovia College
Wildcats with three first place finishes. In a dual
meet with SUNY Institute of Technology, Thomas finished first in
both the 400 yard IM with a time of 5:35.36 and the 200 yard
Butterfly with a time of 2:42.14. She also led the 200 yard Medley
relay team to a first place finish with a time of 5:23.30. Thomas
helped her team defeat SUNYIT 131-34.
